An Octave in Time In this article I hope to share a teaching that may give insight into a basic process of unfoldment. I must first give credit and pay respect to Reshad Field who first shared it with me in 1977, having received it through the line of Gurdjieff, Ouspensky and John Bennett. The application to broader spans of time has come through my research. The octave is used here in a symbolic sense that is nonetheless real. Reshad demonstrated it in the time-structure of his workshop that day. He divided the hours of the workshop into seven equal steps, assigning the steps to tones, e.g. do-re-mi, etc. As he explained it, the basic meaning and function of these steps became clear. He also explained the meaning and function of the "shock points" of the octave. The basic attributions of the octave steps are as follows: Do - Intention Base chakra Red Re - Action or Movement Sacral chakra Orange Mi - Assimilation of Power Solar Plexus Yellow (shock) Fa - Sharing in Love Heart Green Sol - Expression Throat chakra Blue La - Inner Vision Third Eye Indigo Ti - Surrender Crown chakra Violet (shock) Do -(New Intention) Reshad used these steps in healing, which is a whole other matter. I shall try to restrict this article to its appication in the structure of time, true unfoldment of intention being healing of a sort. Before I give the dates associated with the unfoldment of various principles within the octave, here is a brief outline of its inner dynamics. "Shock point" is a term used to denote the Mi-Fa and Si-Do of an octave. Musical people will note that this is where the half-steps occur in a diatonic scale; in a C Major scale there are no black notes between E and F, or between B and C, hence these are the half-steps. In octave dynamics the first shock comes between Mi and Fa, Solar plexus and Heart, Power and Love. Most human action and endeavour does not really make it through this transition, repeating only Do-Re-Mi, Do-Re-Mi. Mi and "me" are a good example of homonyms built into our language to show us something. If the transition is not made to the Heart and to Sharing, the original intention is either lost or cannot evolve. To make the bridge, an additional remembrance and reinforcement of the intention is necessary, coupled with surrender of the third step, or personal power. Reshad used this point in time, three sevenths (.428571) of the way through the workshop, to apply a special breathing and meditation exercise where we were instructed to breath in through the Solar Plexus and out through the Heart Chakra, remembering the original intention of our inner work. The mathematics of this are tied to the Enneagram in the way that any fraction of 7 (1/7, 2/7, etc.) expressed decimally yields a repeating pattern (1/7=.142857, 2/7=285714). This is the order of connecting lines within the Enneagram, for those who are familiar with it. The second shock, the Si-Do, occurs at the end of an octave and the beginning of a new one. For a new intention to truly take root, surrender (of ego) must occur. These steps unfold in time whether we are conscious of them or not. The implications of conscious participation in the structure of "unfoldment within time" are vast. In this one particular appication of the octave, I am using DEGREES of "solar motion", not days. Any unit may be used; days, lunar cycles, years, etc. Also, a very important application is the division of larger units by seven (reciprocal), but that is another matter. This will be "building from units". The unit of 360 degrees of "solar motion" (Earth is the one actually moving) per year was set long ago, based upon the fact that 360 is the most factorable number under 1000. Therefore, numerically it is neutral to other number harmonics expressed in terms of it. I therefore posited octave cycles of 7, 49, 343, 2401, and 16807 degrees, these being the "powers of seven". A "grand octave" of 16807 degrees is 46.686 years, or 17052 days (49X348), approximately. Every cycle must have a starting point. In this case I use a beginning date for the Piscean Age that I have repeatedly tested. The cycle we are currently in works out as follows: "Do" (Intention) of "La/Sol" (Expression of Inner Vision) - - December 24, 1985 + 2401 degrees = "Re" (Action/Movement) of La/Sol - - August 26, 1992 + 2401 degrees = "Mi" (Assimilation of Power) of La/Sol - - April 25, 1999 + 2401 degrees = "Fa" (Sharing in Love) of La/Sol - - December 27, 2005 + 2401 degrees = "Sol" (Expression) of La/Sol - - August 29, 2012 Note that the last "Si-Do shock" would have occurred in the Fall of 1985.. Within each larger (2401 degree) cycle there are smaller cycles, but these larger ones could be important. What is implied is that, for those of us who made an intention around that date in December 1985 to further the Expression of Inner Vision, the unfoldment is as follows: August 1992 would have marked the beginning of definitive action in this direction. April 1999 would have indicated the beginning of assimilation of power in this direction, with attendant possibilities of misuse. December 2005 was the crossing of the "Mi-Fa", the crucial time when personal power and assimilation must be tempered with surrender to ensure the continuance of the original intention of expression of the inner vision. This makes possible the sharing of love in the heart, the telepathic green ray reaching out to join our intentions. It prepares us for the cycle of expression which will come in August 2012. This is the basic outline of only one set of cycles. Remember that the questions are more important than the answers.
